Magic Johnson to take part in a fundraising event that will benefit
a school in Ethiopia.

On Sunday, January 24th, Earvin ‘Magic’ Johnson will be at Tenafly High School in New Jersey. Magic Johnson will be helping to raise funds in order to add facilities for a school in Awassa, Ethiopia.

The fundraiser will feature two events. The first event will commence at 3:00 p.m. at Tenafly High School Gym. There will be an Ethiopian “Gebzha” Festival and basketball games featuring students and faculty of Tenafly High School. The second event, the Global Care Benefit Dinner, starts at 5:30 and will be held at the Clinton Inn. The dinner will be emceed by WABC Anchorwoman Lori Stokes and Johnson will be presented with the “2010 Global Citizenship Award.”   

The events are organized by Global Care Unlimited (GCU). Founded by human rights activist and school teacher, Mark Hyman, GCU is a non-profit organization which seeks to nurture global citizenship in youth by forming global citizenship communities that engage in service-learning initiatives. 

Ten percent of the proceeds will benefit efforts in Haiti and the other 90% will go to the school in Ethiopia.
